How To Choose Your Branded Merchandise
By Gerry Bolt of G3 Promotions (DWIB Awards Sponsor)
Choosing the right branded merchandise for your business can be a great way to build brand awareness and foster customer loyalty. Here are some tips to help you make the right choice.
The Target Audience for Your Branded Merchandise
First, consider the target audience for your branded merchandise. What are their preferences and interests? What kind of items would they find useful or appealing? For example, if your target audience is primarily made up of busy professionals, you might consider branded office supplies or tech accessories.
Next, think about the message you want to convey with your branded merchandise. Are you looking to promote a specific product or service, or are you simply trying to increase brand recognition? This will help you choose items that best align with your brand identity.
Another important factor to consider is the quality of your branded merchandise. You want to choose merchandise that is well-made and will reflect positively on your brand. Cheap or poorly made items can do more harm than good.
Finally, don’t forget about the practicalities. Make sure the branded merchandise you choose is easy to distribute and store, and that it fits within your budget. With these factors in mind, you can choose the perfect branded merchandise to help your business grow.

More top tips for choosing the right branded merchandise for your business.
- Let’s start with your logo. Would you prefer 1, 2, or full-colour print? One colour is the most cost-effective.
- Now, look for products that can cope with your print demands. Not all branded merchandise can be printed in full colour and if it is it may be pricier than you expect! Budget restrictions are tied to print, quantity and quality. Try not to be too ambitious about what you can get for your money.
- Buy in bulk. It is always better value to order a larger amount of one or two products rather than a smaller quantity of five or six. Each product will have artwork, setup and carriage associated with the production, which could be from several different suppliers.
- Is your branded merchandise a quality gift or an inexpensive giveaway? Each will have a different quantity and price point. But imagine turning up to your Devon Women in Business Events with something useful and memorable to give away!
- Think about the planet! More and more people are becoming environmentally conscious and an Eco Bamboo Pen is a far more welcome gift than a plastic one. Cotton shoppers are very popular as they are seen out and about. Cotton is 100% recyclable and in most cases Fair Trade. We recently produced a Cotton Shopper for an accountant who wanted to give back their clients’ paperwork in a smart bag rather than a boring brown envelope or folder. A popular new product is Seeded Paper which can be made into bookmarks, business cards, A5 or A6 postcards, coasters or seed sticks. All can be soaked and then planted so they are fun and useful products as well.Â
- Allow plenty of proof/production time before your event. Most UK products will take 7 to 10 working days to produce, and goods from abroad can take 3 to 4 weeks.
- When you approach a reputable supplier be prepared for a list of questions. We want to get your branded merchandise right as much as you do!
