Supporting Memory Matters
💖 Devon Women in Business is proud to support Memory Matters CIC
as our Charity of the Year for 2026.
Throughout the year, we’ll be helping to raise awareness and funds for this incredible Devon charity, which supports people living with dementia and the families who care for them.
Dementia touches so many lives. In fact, the lifetime chance of either developing dementia yourself or caring for someone who does is around 1 in 2. That means many of us, our friends, or our families will be affected at some point.
Memory Matters is here to ensure no one faces that journey alone.
About Memory Matters
Founded in 2010, Memory Matters has grown from a small local initiative into a thriving charity and social enterprise supporting thousands of families across Devon and Cornwall.
Every service they provide is designed around what people affected by dementia say they need. Their work focuses on helping individuals live well with dementia, while supporting families and carers with practical guidance, connection, and reassurance.
From advice and training to social groups and therapeutic support, Memory Matters helps families regain confidence, dignity, and hope.
A Story of Support
Imagine waking up each day unsure whether your loved one will remember you, the home you’ve built together, or the life you share.
This was the reality for Mark and Elaine.
As Mark’s memory declined, everyday life became increasingly difficult. Conversations were forgotten, items were misplaced, and routines became confusing. Their home, once full of laughter, began to feel uncertain and overwhelming.
When they contacted Memory Matters, things began to change.
Their Dementia Advice service became a lifeline, guiding them through the support available. Mark and Elaine were introduced to the Moments Café, where they met other families and rediscovered a sense of belonging.
Elaine attended a therapy group, giving her vital time to rest and reconnect with herself. At the same time, Memory Matters worked alongside statutory services to ensure Mark’s care needs were properly addressed, helping the couple navigate a complex system and ensuring they didn’t fall through the cracks.
Today, families like Mark and Elaine live with greater confidence, support, and hope.
The Impact of Memory Matters
The difference Memory Matters makes across the region is significant.
In 2024–2025 alone:
- 927 people contacted their dementia advisors
- 63,173 people visited Moments Café
- 1,340 people attended Cognitive Stimulation Therapy sessions
- 415 people received specialist dementia training
Across Devon, around 11,700 people have a dementia diagnosis, though the real number is estimated to be closer to 20,000, as many people remain undiagnosed.
That’s why the work of Memory Matters is so vital.
